Haworth Tompkins reveals plans for the redevelopment of Grade I listed De La Warr Pavilion 28.07.25

Haworth Tompkins has submitted applications for planning and listed building consent for a phased Masterplan for the Grade I listed De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill. Designed by Erich Mendelsohn and Serge Chermayeff with engineer Felix Samuely, the Pavilion is considered to be one of the most important modernist buildings in the UK.

The proposals seek to address pressing conservation and refurbishment issues; widen engagement across the town, district and region; and streamline operations to support organisational business viability and economic impact regionally. The masterplan will be delivered through a series of phased works, starting with the auditorium and foyers, with further phases delivered in line with fundraising activity.

HT Director Lucy Picardo said, 'The submission of the planning and listed building consent applications marks an important step forward in the journey to secure the De La Warr Pavilion’s long-term future. We look forward to continuing our close work with Rother District Council, DLWP, and the wider community as the project progresses through the next stages.'
