This includes Haworth Tompkins' plans for the Foundry Village: a walkable neighbourhood that puts play, human-scaled streets and green space ahead of private cars; where ginnels, yards and shard gardens create a generosity of public life; and where the character of York — its terraces, industrial heritage and intricate network of passages — are echoed within the urban fabric. Designed by Haworth Tompkins, Foundry Village will provide 368 mixed-tenure homes at the heart of York Central.
A new public square - Foundry Yard - will form a new civic focus, framed by homes, community uses and a local store, with the retained foundry buildings offering the potential for cultural and creative life. The Sidings — a connected sequence of green spaces linking Leeman Road, Foundry Yard and Central Park — will bring nature, play and everyday movement through the neighbourhood.
