Warburg Institute on site 21.07.22

Work has started on site for our refurbishment and extension of The Warburg Institute, one of London’s leading cultural and academic institutions. Warburg Renaissance is a major project which will transform the Institute by restoring its original vision, preparing it for future generations. New public facilities planned as part of the project include an innovative, open-plan exhibition space, a Reading Room for the Special Collections and a 140-seat lecture room in the central courtyard. The Library will be expanded to allow for at least 20 years of growth, along with refurbished stacks, improved climate control, and upgraded teaching and study space for all members of the Institute. The building project will create new possibilities for artistic partnership and public engagement; most notably the inscribed porcelain structure of Edmund de Waal’s library of exile installation will permanently be on display within the ground floor, honouring both the Warburg’s history and ambitions for the future. Work will complete towards the end of 2023.
