Two HT projects selected as Regional Finalists in the 2026 Civic Trust Awards 27.11.25

Pembroke Mill Lane, Cambridge and The Warburg Renaissance have been selected as Regional Finalists in the 2026 Civic Trust Awards and will now be considered for National Awards with the winners announced January 2026.

Pembroke Mill Lane is the most significant expansion of Pembroke College, Cambridge since the 14th century, transforming a dense site in the historic city centre into a cohesive and accessible collegiate campus. Alongside the retrofit of heritage buildings are a series of new social, teaching, and residential spaces, arranged around new biodiverse gardens. Timber-framed structures, gas-free energy systems, and climate resilient landscape strategies form part of a holistic approach to sustainability that addresses the needs of people and community, water balance and biodiversity, and decarbonisation. The diversity of the internal and external spaces provides a series of versatile, accessible, and flexible environments that will support a range of activities for generations to come, reinforcing Pembroke’s commitment to world-class research, teaching, and the exchange of ideas.

The Warburg Renaissance Project transformed the Warburg Institute into a more open, accessible and public-facing institution, revealing hidden collections to new audiences and the public for the first time in its history, expanding capacity for 20 years of future growth and securing its cultural legacy through sensitive restoration, sustainable design and improved facilities for research, teaching and public engagement. It provides new and enhanced spaces, a purpose-built lecture theatre, public gallery space, improved teaching spaces and new storage and study areas for the Library, Archives and Special Collections. This transformative project secures the Institute’s future as a vibrant, accessible hub for research, teaching and public engagement, ensuring it will continue to inspire and engage new audiences for generations to come.
