Dewi-Prys Thomas Award for Theatr Clwyd 29.05.26

Last week, Haworth Tompkins received the Dewi-Prys Thomas Award for our work on Theatr Clwyd in Mold, North Wales. The award celebrates the role of design in improving quality of life and supporting regeneration across Wales. HT’s Lucy Picardo attended the ceremony alongside Liam Evans-Ford and Zoe Crick-Tucker from Theatr Clwyd.

Theatr Clwyd transforms a Grade II-listed 1976 civic complex into a vibrant, sustainable and accessible cultural centre for North Wales. At the heart of the redevelopment is a new three-storey glazed foyer - a welcoming public space bringing together reception, café, restaurant and generous circulation areas, all connected by a central atrium and framed by views across the Clwydian countryside.

Delivered as the theatre celebrates its 50th anniversary, the project creates inclusive spaces for performance, learning and wellbeing, marking a new chapter in the theatre’s history as a cultural centrepiece for performance, learning and community life in North Wales.

Thank you to the Dewi-Prys Trust, the RSAW and the judges for the recognition, and to our client Theatr Clwyd, Flintshire County Council and the wider design team.
