Haworth Tompkins appointed to Royal Festival Hall refurbishment 28.04.26

Following the announcement of £10m investment from the Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to undertake critical infrastructure repairs to the Grade I listed Royal Festival Hall, we are delighted to announce our appointment to work with the Southbank Centre on the next phases of this landmark project. The works will focus on fabric upgrades replacing ageing fabric to improve thermal performance, energy efficiency, acoustic performance and long-term resilience, ensuring the building continues to serve future generations.

Haworth Tompkins brings extensive experience in the sensitive transformation of historic cultural buildings, including the Grade 2* National Theatre, Grade 1 Bristol Old Vic and Grade 1 Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The practice is known for delivering technically rigorous, sustainable interventions within live, operational venues. This project represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Southbank Centre and to support the Royal Festival Hall which this year celebrates its 75th anniversary.
