Designed as part of the new Edith Cowan University City Campus in Perth, the project brings together five state-of-the-art performance venues: a recital hall for full orchestral performance, a dance theatre, a playhouse theatre with an orchestra pit and fly tower, a jazz and contemporary music venue, and a flexible drama theatre. Alongside these sit two major rehearsal spaces - an orchestra rehearsal room with flexible seating for ensemble performances and a drama rehearsal room equipped with immersive digital projection and surround sound, as well as production makings spaces, dressing rooms, music practice rooms and generous new foyers that connect performers, students and audiences throughout the building.
Roger Watts, Director at Haworth Tompkins said “What is so exciting about ECU City is not only the balanced spread of the performing arts and the onsite production spaces, but also all the other diverse university disciplines mixed together into a shared single building, colliding and engaging with each other, bringing all this energy and creativity into the heart of the city. Audiences will get a sense of the creativity that goes into making a show through their journey to and from the venues. This experience will start on the approach to the building and continue through the entrance to the foyers with glimpses into the workshop and rehearsal spaces together with amazing views out over the City of Perth."
