The major renovation of Kouvola Theatre is underway 15.08.25

A new cultural heart will emerge in the city as Kouvola Theatre is transformed into a stunning and more versatile venue.

The two phase project started on site in July 2025 as the transformaton of the existing Kuntotalo into theatre use began. The renovation work is scheduled to be completed by February 2027, when the theatre will move into the new premises. In the second phase, the current theatre building will be demolished and replaced by a new extension housing a large stage and audience foyer.

Through an ongoing international collaboration with local architects ARCO, the design combines functionality, urban quality, and sustainable construction – using durable materials and valuing local architectural heritage.

Upon completion the new theatre will open up to the city, inviting locals to meet, offering experiences and communal moments for decades to come within a new cultural landmark for Kouvola.
