We are thrilled to announce that Pembroke Mill Lane, Cambridge, for Pembroke College has received a RIBA National Award, adding to the RIBA East Awards won earlier this year for Building of the Year, Project Architect, and Conservation.
The project transforms a dense, formerly impermeable site in the heart of Cambridge's Historic Core Conservation Area, the most significant expansion of Pembroke College since the 14th century. Six retrofitted buildings sit alongside six new ones, arranged around a series of biodiverse gardens and courtyards that open the College to the wider city and community.
RIBA's judges praised the scheme as a robust and thoughtful piece of city-making, one that improves accessibility, strengthens connections between buildings and gardens, and shows how heritage, contemporary academic needs, and environmental responsibility can be aligned.
A huge thank you to RIBA and the judges for this recognition, to our client Pembroke College, and to the wider design and construction team whose hard work, collaboration and vision made this possible.
