James Mearns

James joined Haworth Tompkins in 2021 and works across the studio's cultural, industrial, residential and masterplanning projects, with a particular interest in reuse. He has worked with Grade I and II listed buildings across design and delivery, and his Master's thesis investigated innovative strategies for retaining and sustaining our non-listed buildings in the face of the climate crisis – at local, national and international scales.

Having gained his Part I from the University of Bath, including a semester at the Technische Universität München, James completed his Part II at the London School of Architecture, graduating with Distinction whilst working part-time at Haworth Tompkins. He completed his Part III at the University of Cambridge. James has been a mentor through the Social Mobility Foundation, a Conservation Volunteer with local Wildlife Trusts, and is a guest reviewer at the London School of Architecture.
