Somerleyton Road, 2015

Community facilities and 70 new homes in Brixton

Haworth Tompkins worked on plans for a section of Somerleyton Road, a development in Brixton with Metropolitan Workshop, Mae Architects, Zac Monro Architects and Foster Wilson Architects.

It saw a total of 300 new homes, a theatre, workspaces and a street gym created. Local residents have been a key part of the process as we work to create 70 new varying-sized homes, with facilities including a nursery, children’s centre, community space and shop.

All homes within the mixed tenure scheme will be for rent, and more than 50% will be affordable units. Somerleyton Road will create a sustainable community with no division between private and social housing. All the features have been included following discussion with local people about the type of homes they want.
