collaboration with Martin Creed at the Mayfair restaurant

Continuing a relationship that has included projects at the London Library, the Scotsman Steps in Edinburgh, installations at the Hayward Gallery in London and Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in NYC, artist Martin Creed collaborated with the practice to realise his Work No. 1347 at sketch restaurant in Mayfair. Haworth Tompkins provided technical support for the installation of the new floor, which consists of 96 different types of marble from around the world, forming a herringbone pattern across the room.

The floor becomes a permanent part of the building with the room installation rotating on a bi-annual basis with work by a different artist. For his installation Creed created an environment that is at once an exhibition, an artwork and a restaurant. Every piece of cutlery, glassware, lamp, chair and table is different (Work No. 1343), bringing together a mix of the mass produced and hand-crafted, from classic antiques to contemporary design. Four different wall drawings are overlaid by 18 paintings by Creed, including his series Work No. 1100 (2011).
