Network Wembley, 2020

156 new build apartments, on three plots that form part of a wider masterplan

This project provides 156 affordable homes as part of the Wembley Park development. The scheme is formed of two elements, composed to frame the arrival view from Wembley Park station towards the national stadium: a lower block adjacent to existing homes and a higher element formed of twin housing blocks which are linked by a communal garden over a podium of mixed use spaces. The apartments are a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes including dedicated apartments for wheelchair users.

The streamlined architectural language of horizontal balconies recalls the ‘Metroland’ art deco buildings typical of the neighbourhood, whilst the disposition and height of the various elements is designed to maximise daylight and privacy for residents and to establish a legible, secure public realm. A palette of rich dark blue brown brickwork at podium level and pale grey brown brickwork on upper floors, supplemented by pale precast detailing, has been selected for its subtlety, durability and capacity to weather and mellow over time.
