Haworth Tompkins were approached by Derwent Valley to look at development options for a site which was being used for light industrial warehousing units. From the planning history it was apparent that the site has been used as such since the early 1960's. Islington Council had designated the site for "employment use" in their UPD. Several massing options for development were tested with site models and drawings. Scale of buildings, quality of spaces in between new and existing buildings and opportunities that the existing site presented were explored. The suitability of different functions in relation to the context (present and future) were also considered.
